Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) is the official code name used by the United States government to designate several military operations launched after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Although the term also refers to the OEF Philippines (OEF-P, formerly Freedom Eagle) and OEF Horn of Africa (OEF-HOA) campaigns, it is used par excellence for the military operation launched in 2001 against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the first act of the war on terrorism.
After 13 years, on December 28, 2014, US President Barack Obama announced the end of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Subsequent operations in Afghanistan by US military forces, both non-combat and combat, have been conducted under the name Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
