The Navy SEALs are the special forces of the United States Navy. They are mainly used in conflicts and unconventional warfare, internal defense, direct action and anti-terrorism actions as well as in special reconnaissance missions in mainly maritime and coastal operational environments.
The name of this corps is an acronym that includes the environments in which the members have been trained to operate (SEa, sea - Air, air - Land, land. Seal in English means seal) and depend on the United States Naval Special Warfare Command.
Within the SEALs is a specialized counterterrorism component, commonly known as SEAL Team 6 but officially called the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU).
