Woodpecker, originally called Picchio Pacchio, is a fictional cartoon and comic strip character created by Walter Lantz in 1940; he is an anthropomorphic woodpecker, based on the model of the acorn woodpecker (although also similar to the pileated woodpecker), who first appeared in short films produced by Lantz himself and distributed by Universal Pictures.
He has appeared in many cameos in films such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Men on the Moon, which includes a short film in which the character describes the physical and technical problems of space flight. He has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
