The Gulf War (August 2, 1990 – February 28, 1991), also called the First Gulf War in relation to the so-called Second Gulf War, is the conflict that pitted Iraq against a coalition of 35 states formed under the aegis of the UN and led by the United States, which aimed to restore the sovereignty of the small emirate of Kuwait, after it had been invaded and annexed by Iraq.
