The M1 Abrams is a main battle tank produced in the United States by General Dynamics. It is the primary armored vehicle of the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps, and the armies of Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. It is a well-armored and heavily armored vehicle designed for modern armored warfare. The most notable features of the M1 Abrams include the use of a powerful gas turbine engine, the adoption of sophisticated composite armor, and an innovative ammunition storage system in special compartments that, in the event of an explosion, redirect the force outwards, multiplying the chances of survival of the crew. Weighing approximately 68 tons, it is one of the heaviest tanks currently in service.
