The 1st "Special Operations" Air Brigade is a large unit of the Italian Air Force, which integrates aircraft for tactical transport and airborne troops, with the task of managing the sector of the special forces and the protection forces of the armed force.

The 1st "Special Operations" Air Brigade, named after Lieutenant Colonel Vezio Mezzetti, originates from the "1º Terrestrial Hunting Wing" created in Brescia on 7 May 1923 equipped with Hanriot HD.1, SPAD S.VII and SPAD S.XIII. The department was formed by the 6th Aviano Group, the 13th Venaria Reale Hunting Group and the 23rd Cinisello Balsamo Group.
