The Italian Army (EI) is the land component of the Italian armed forces, which also include the Navy, the Air Force and the Carabinieri, all dependent on the Chief of Defense and included in the Ministry of defence.

Born as Royal Army in 1861 on the occasion of the Unification of Italy from the nucleus of the Sardinian Army, it assumed its current name after the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946.
